![]() I stopped and went down a short embankment along the Plattekill Creek near one of my favorite picturesque spots to wet down my head to cool off. The 350-400-million year old Catskill Escarpment is in the distance. This wetlands off Kaaterskill Creek near High Falls (there are at least two within 30 miles of each other) was abuzz with wildlife. My memory is of standing in a crowd of young deer with handfuls of corn kernels, a bit intimidated by their hustle to get some of that corn. I usually stop for an iced tea.Īnyone that grew up in the 1960s within a certain radius of the Hudson Valley will know about the Catskill Game Farm, a family attraction that was like a big petting zoo. It’s popular with tourists as it’s one of the few good food stops around. There’s a nice market about 10 miles out in Palenville. I could feel it towards the end which I cut short by about 5 miles.
